Sister Marianne McCann, Honorary

Sister Marianne McCann has spent her ministry for the last six decades in Catholic education as an administrator and just as importantly - a teacher.   In September 1974, after many years teaching 6^th, 7^th_, and 8^th graders in the Archdiocese of Newark, Sister Marianne came to Paul VI High School as a teacher in the English department.   A few years later, she began her tenure as an administrator of Paul VI serving as the vice principal for 23 years. From 2001 to 2022, she was the principal of Paul VI High School and held that position while also enjoying her Advanced Placement English students in the classroom and advising the student council.

 

In the years between 1974 and 2022, Paul VI continuously changed and developed into the well-respected and forward-thinking Catholic high school it is today.  Sr. Marianne was most proud to be part of the team of dedicated teachers and administrators who left a legacy in campus ministry and service, Advanced Placement courses, the AP Capstone program in research, the Project Lead The Way (PLTW ) program in both computer programming and biomedical science,  the iPad 1 to1 program,  the dance program, all while continuing the challenging curriculum programs and strong sports teams at Paul VI.  

 

In those 48 years, Sister Marianne also dedicated time to other aspects of Paul VI. She served as an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees, an advisor for the Pauction fundraising, a contract negotiator, and as a major contributor directing the continuous improvements and changes made to the facilities.  

 

Sister Marianne has been recognized for service to the Roman Catholic Church with the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal, and service to the Diocese of Camden with Meritorious Service to the Church of Camden Award. In 2018 she was the nominee of NCEA for Lead, Learn, Proclaim Award from the Diocese of Camden. In 2021 the Rising Sun Lodge No. 15 of Haddonfield bestowed its Educator-of-the-Year award to Sister Marianne McCann, principal of Paul VI High School in Haddon Township. 

Sister Marianne is a member of the Religious Teachers Filippini; since Paul VI opened its doors, thirty-five sisters have served on the faculty and supported Paul VI. Sister Marianne has also served her religious community as a member of the Board of Directors for Villa Victoria Academy, and in 2019, she was elected Provincial Councilor and Provincial Secretary for the Religious Teachers Filippini. Her ministry is and always will be to serve as a Catholic educator of young people.
