John Yeager, '73

Forty-five years of love and dedicated diligence for PVI. As a student from 1969 to 1973, he was a leader in scholarship as a selected member of the senior humanities program (one of 25 students); a member of student government (elected senior class vice-president); participated in sports (varsity basketball for three years and was co-captain in his senior year); and loved the arts (served as co-editor of the literary magazine).

In 1979, he returned to Paul VI to teach English, drama, and film appreciation and finished his illustrious career upon retirement in June 2020. While teaching at PVI, he directed nine spring musicals and served as the varsity softball coach for one year as an interim. He was the English department chair, served as the senior-level moderator, and was a member of the NHS selection committee since its onset. Additionally, he moderated the bowling club, the film club, the origami club, and the D&D club.

Nearly everyone who had him as a classroom teacher described him as their “favorite teacher” - not for being easy, but for being caring, interesting, fair, and helpful. To many, he is viewed as “The Legend". His classroom truly epitomized a community where learning never stopped. Educational methodology is learned, but quality teaching is an art.
